Here's what I did not love at the new Oasis at Gold Spike - WIFI! $20 a night resort fee bought me WIFI which had a great signal and expired credentials.

Rooms do not have alarm clocks or telephones but both can be requested at the front desk. LACK OF OLD TECHNOLOGY! Finally someone understands we carry these things in our back pockets. PET FRIENDLY! Not even a per day fee, the pet fee is a straight $50 per stay. LOCATION! One block off of Fremont Street makes for easy access to gaming, eating, etc. Totally chill, uncrowded and all kinds of awesome. Here's what I loved about the new Oasis at Gold Spike - THE POOL! Lounging at the pool on a Friday afternoon with only three other people is unlike any other pool situation I've seen in Vegas. Rates are less during the week and having experienced the room, would probably not pay more than the weeknight fee. We stayed in room 333 on a Thursday and Friday night of a holiday weekend and paid $325 including resort fees, taxes and pet fees. For this trip we booked a suite or what Oasis calls the Ultimate Crash Pad. It's been quite awhile since we have last given thought to the Fremont Street area of Vegas so no idea when this phoenix rose from the ashes but as soon as we saw it we added two nights to a trip over 4th of July and headed down to check out Oasis at Gold Spike. And then it was gone, forcing us down to the strip. It was small, kitschy and carried a distinct Melrose Place vibe. In its first incarnation we frequently stayed at the Gold Spike because it was the only known hotel downtown that was pet-friendly and had rooms you rented by the night rather than the hour. Ah, Gold Spike! How often in life do we get do-overs? With the reopening of the non-casino Gold Spike, the Oasis has reemerged as some version of our old stomping grounds.
